About Frank

Frank Ostoff, born in 1957, settled in Oldenburg as an assistant engineer after sailing the seas.

At the age of 23, he attended the masterschool for engineering and trade and enrolled for his first Aikido class at the Dojo of Wolfgang Sambrowski. Frank immediately caught fire as he was deeply moved by this graceful and subtle martial art. He has continuously practised Aikido ever since.

His teachers in Oldenburg and Hamburg encouraged him to move to Berlin to become a highly skilled disciple of Gerhard Walter at his Aikido-Zen Institute in Berlin. As a result of the intense and professional training he was given the opportunity to continue and complete his studies with Christian Tissier in Paris. It was then that he met Yamaguchi Sensei and Endo Sensei who both invited him several times to Japan to study at the origine source and heart of Aikido.

In 1991 he opened and established the Aikido Dojo in Duesseldorf and commenced his career as a self-employed master and teacher of Aikido.

He took part in various international courses and seminars where he made friends with other masters of Aikido from all over Europe and Japan.

Each of them enriched his teachings and contributed to the work and spirit of the Dojo in Duesseldorf. In particular, he developed a close relationship with Jan Nevelius and Jorma Lyly from Stockholm with whom he organizes and conducts an international seminar in Lillsved nearby the Swedish coast every summer.

Over the past few years Frank has focused on studying further methods and techniques improving and supporting the healing process of the body and the mind, such as Feldenkrais, Alexandertechnique and Psychosyntheses.

He considers Qigong and different means of energetic healing to be his favorite fields of interest. The teachers who have influenced his career in Aikido to a great extend are Master Mantak Chia from Thailand, Prof. Zhang from Peking and their highly skilled master disciples in Europe.

In January 2003 Frank Ostoff graduated in a master training course in the Tao Garden in Thailand and received a diploma as a Certified Instructor of the Universal Tao System of Master Chia.
